I recently bought a used Simplicity mower powered by a 14hp Briggs & Stratton OHV vertical shaft engine. It would run for awhile then die, and I though I had the problem solved with a replacement fuel pump. It ran fine at idle and while mowing short grass, but when the engine came under heavy load (tall grass), it the engine would "romp" up and down a few times and then die. It would restart, but then soon die again. I fully admit to not being much of a small engine mechanic. Any tips??

I think you need to replace the coil ( Magnetron).Sounds like it is going bad when it get hot.

When my 16 HP vertical did that it was the air cleaner. It may look good but it wasn't I replaced it with new and back to the "REVS" I went. Brad
