Hello,
I have a 425 with a 54" deck that throws the belt when engaging the PTO. Everything looks good and only thing I can figure is it must be a bad belt even though it is fairly new. Just wondering if anyone has come across this problem before and if so what was the fix.

possibly a bad bearing????? ??? try sticking a screw driver or pry bar unde the pullies and pry up on them should be no up and down movemnt. i woudl say tension spring possibly strenched but you fixed that. make sure no rocks lodged in pullies and also spin the pullies without a belt on them and watch them shoudl be no wobble maybe a bent pully not likely cuase should throw belt at higher speeds too but who knows

Well just tore the entire deck apart and the only thing I found was the deck wasn't flat where the right side pulley bolts to. The person that owned it told me they broke to spindle housings from hitting stumps so thats probably how that happened. With a straight edge ruler I would say there was 1/4 difference. Flatened it out the best I could and we'll see what happens. Do you all think that would make that much difference?

I picked a 425 up recently with a 48" mower. My buddy I bought it from said you must idle down the engine before engaging or it will throw the belt. Don't know if this is correct but have not tossed a belt. With that electric engagement it would be very harsh to start at full spead and I would think it may pull on the tension spring. Just my thoughts but I have no real Knowledge of this tractor.

I have tried this also and it doesn't work either. Something has to be wrong and the tension spring has already been changed. Along with the belt that is on it currently.

If I recall there are occasonal pins on the deck desighned to control the belt. A pully at the wrong hieght? Someone out there must have some insight. Check for severe ware or something out of spec.
