Just curious if anybody else is putting out a large garden or mini farm with thier garden tractors, I am in the process of getting all the needed implements, just need a tandam disc and a brinly planter to complete my set up, I plan to put out sweet corn, potatos, and a few other veggies. No rototiller is used, just a single 10" brinly moldboard plow and a cub cadet model 72. I saw some plans for a mini gravity wagon using one of those metal 4 wheel garden carts you see at lowes or home depot, can remember when I saw them now. Cheers Mike and Michele T

I"ve gardened with my David Bradley tractors for several years. I plow, disc, roto-till, plant, cultivate with the 3pt hitch attachments. I have several tractors to choose from so it doesn"t take much time to switch from one thing to another. Even though they dont truely harvest you can still pull a wagon and haul in the bounty. Finding a brinly planter with enough plates to seed with is tough. You would be better off to look for one of the planet jr models and adapt it for you tractor. They will work for about everything but corn, you really need a plate type planter for that, like my Bradley one. There used to be a few books around that covered how to lay out a garden for tractor farming, so you can get the most out of the space you have.

not sure what you consider "large" but I have 1/2 acre in garden, mostly pumkins and gourds, some veggies like tomatoes, potatoes, corn, beans, carrots, squash and cucumbers. I turn it over each fall with a Farmall and a 2-bottom JD plow. In spring I go over it with a 9 ft spring harrow. A 12 horse Simplicity hydro with a tiller behind preps for planting (which is done by hand). I built a cultivator for behing the hydro and have a 5 h.p. walk behind tiller for weed control (along with hand weeding in tight spots). If I spend 1/2 to 3/4 hour a day on it after planting I can keep up with weed control and harvesting.

Happy gardening!

Something like that, but using nothing larger than a big garden tractor like a cub cadet 169 or 1650, sleeve hitch or cat O implements, the only implement you cannot buy new is a brinly planter, have to find a decent vintage one with the seed plates intact. Someone in our cub cadet club is working on a conversion of the manual garden way brand planter to be mounted to a cub cadet"s sleeve hitch. Of coarse you cannot really harvest with a garden tractor, that must be done by hand. Cheers Mike

Hi, I know what you are talking about has been done, although I haven't talked with anyone who has gardened with lawn/garden equipment in about 20 years. I don't know anyone who has done that like that when they could garden with larger equipment. As far as I know, the only thing worse is trying to garden with a 2 wheeler and I tried that one year when I was younger and dumber.

I was thinking with a mini gravity wagon you would need a mini combine too.
