I have a 430 that my father owned before passing on and I dont have a manuel. I noticed that it has a hi and lo setting on the right side under the steering wheel and I can"t seem to get it to move, is there a trick to it or is it froze up. Also what kind of a bonehead would put a nonrebuildable cylinder on the steering, $214.00 for a new just because of a .98 seal

The non-rebuildable cylinder come from the dealer/engineering mind set that because of the high labor cost of the dealer it is cheaperto install a new cylinder than rebuild the old one. Also there is less chance of the repair coming back because the repair of the cylinder was not done correctly. Remember most equipment today IS NOT designed for the DO-IT yourselfer. The dealer wants all the repair work IMO.

If you will pull back a little bit as you switch you will disengage pin that locks selector in place, cannot disagree with you about cylinder. Yet another engineer afraid to leave his house.

Thanks for the info guys. I will try to pull back on the lever to see if it will switch. Does any know if the steering cylinder from a 318 is the same?

steering cylinder is definately different, you can rebuild it if you put it in a lathe and cut the weld from the back part of cyl, then weld together when done. also that price they gave you is high, should be around 160.00
