I have a early 60's Wheel Horse 702 that I restored for my 9 year old son.
The 702 has a 2 piece aluminum gas tank that I can't get to stop leaking. The tanks bottom bolts on to the top with about 15 bolts. I bought a piece of cork material and tried and cut it to fit. But, the tank leaks in the lower RH corner. Any ideas on how to fix it? Is there a reproduction gasket that I can buy? I took the tank apart and sealed it with a gasket sealer that a local parts store said would stop the leak and wouldn't be effected by the gas. But, they were wrong. I would like any advice.
Thanks,

I have used JB weld on steel tanks on our farm tractors with great results. I use the 4 min. JB weld. I drain the tank and lightly sand paper the area, clean the area with carb. cleaner and let it set for a few hours with the leaking side up. I mix the JB weld using an equal amout of mixture and apply evenly over the sanded area (the sanded area helps the JB weld hold to the steel) and then let set for 24 hrs. The 4 min JB weld lets it set up a little quicker with out running and looking sloppy. This has worked for me as I said several times.

There's a couple of things you could try. Most auto parts stores carry a two-part epoxy putty that is designed for gas tank leaks that works pretty good. Also, there is a white gas tank sealer that most auto parts sell. You could fix it externally with the epoxy putty and then treat the inside of the tank with the sealer.
