I have seen a lot of them in person and on brochures, but are the MTD made 42" and 43" decks the same deck?

Nope, there are a couple/three/four models,a shallow one,a deep one,an "improved" one about early 90s,some w/skids/wheels...however they will interchange"somewhat" between same series tractors(ie:500series,600series,900series).Decks are letter coded, but not marked...I would say most common is prolly 42","G" deck used for several yrs on 11-12.5hp,600 series.

Guess that don't help much,I have not kept current last couple yrs,but don't recall a 43",...38,42,44,46 are common
