Juat got hold of my first tractor and Im trying to get some information on it. If you could help this would be great. I have a 1950 Case VAO that on the out side looks good (I have seen a lot worse) but the enging is froze up. the number two cylinder had water in it I think from the stack not bening covered during the rain in the Washington winter. From the party I recived it from thay stated that it ran last year but could not get it to turn over this year. So here I sit I squrted some Marvel Mistery Oil in the pistons and will try to free it up in a couple days. Am I on the right track? Any information on were I could get the skinny on this fine peace of yard art would be great. I'm looking for manuels, parts, and photos so my son and I could transform this bute into a working peace equipment

Thank You Greg Bash

VAO? Thats a new one to me, Personally I own a 1949 VAI, (thats the Industrial version of the VAC, which is the common one) The VAI has a higher gear ratio, and the heavy, wide front. I bought mine in the same condition you describe for $150, engine had run fine, but was seized due to water down the exhaust. DONT just oil it up and hope for the best if it breaks loose!! Pull the head, and clean the cylinders by hand, (in my case I found the seized cylinder was about 1/8" from the top of the stroke) all it involved was basic "ridge reaming" but I wiped down each cylinder with a clean, oiled rag anyway. then..... . I dropped the oil pan, I inspected each rod bearing for rust and wear, (I did find one that had rust and pitting) I replaced that one rod bearing with a new one, (I took a peice of oiled crocus cloth, and polished the journal on the crank also, My Results??? I have a perfect motor, it has yet to use any oil whatsoever, The Marvel carb has been gone through, but I use it year round, I have a rear facing back blade on it, that plows snow all winter, its the most valuable tool I own, It disc's my garden, it moves my parts cars, Its my baby, I love it!!! P.S. if you got your "Year" off the serial #, subtract 4 years, mine is a VAI53XXXXX X, its a '49, thats the case serial number deal, I have a manual that covers all the Case's of that era, I'll have to look to see if it lists a VAO, (thats not the one with the drop axel, and the chain drive/gear reduction to the rear axles is it? Dennis Any questions, info needed? Aeromecca@aol.com just email me
