61 or 62 Cub Cadet question

Hello Folks,

I have a 61 or 62 IH Cub Cadet in my barn that my father gave to me a couple of years ago. It has a creeper speed and a pto. It came with a mower deck and a small IH snow blower.

I can make it run but it needs work: generator doesn"t charge properly, gas tank leaks, flat tires, needs a carb float, etc. etc.

The mower needs a bearing and Dad didn"t like the snow blower so it hasn"t been used since the late 80"s.

I was wondering if someone could tell me the value and rarety of the Cub Cadet itself.

Thanks, Mark

Mark8NinNS: IH made the "Cub Cadet in 1961, 1962, and part of 1963....and they sold a massive number of those tractors!! There are a bunch of what we now call the "Original" tractors out there...and used, and sometimes reproduced parts, are easily obtained!

The tractors themselves go for anywhere from $75-$100 for mostly complete parts tractors, to $300 or so for running tractors in need of restoration...with your tractor having a creeper, and a rear PTO...the price goes up considerably!..mainly to the collectors.

Any Cub Cadet, Case/IH dealer can get you parts for the tractor... or any Kohler engine dealer can get you tune up parts, and some internal parts...NAPA can also get you parts for the engine..and the rear axle seals.

E-Bay always has parts for the Originals too.

Also....

For decals, check out this site www.cadetconnection.com

Click on 'For Sale Items'...to go to a page with all the correct decals to restore the Original tractor, and it's 38" timed mower deck!

For a great site, that is the place to get good useable information about your tractor, how to work on/fix it, restore it, etc... go here www.ihcubcadet.com

Good Luck, and hopefully I'll see you over on ihcubcadet.

Sounds similar to one I have. I also found the snow blower useless. Parts are becoming a problem now, but there is a repair shop in Sutherlands River, Pictou co. that so far has kept mine going. The owner is quite knowlegable about these tractors and could probably answer any questions you may have. The shop# is 922-2063

Thanks Jim, I know right where you mean because I turn on/off the 104 at Sutherland"s River every day. I even live in the same 922 exchange.

I"ll check him out for a float and other parts.

Mark

Type International Cub Cadet garden tractors in address bar & hit enter. That should take you to where you will find the Cub web.If year is 61 or 62 it should have a 7 on it.I gave $200 for 1 this summer and it runs good needed a battery.Have a ball hitch on it and pull a 6ft. trailer adding wheel weights when I get time.

I have a friend that bought his Cub Cadet new in 1961. It only says on the decal International Cub Cadet. It is a '70'...meaning it had a 7 horse engine and i don't know if they made a Cadet with a bigger engine back then. In fact, his machine makes no reference to being a '70' as i think that moniker came along in 1962. I do know his has duals in the rear and a mowing deck, no fenders...almost stripped looking..but all original. I think he has a front blade with it too. I would bet all the parts you need are available. he has wanted to repaint his but hasn't found the original decal set yet..maybe somebody here knows where that can be had.

Mark: The 1961, 1962, and 1963 'Cub Cadet' didn't use the hp rating as a model number....it was simply a 'Cub Cadet'....nowdays, people call them an 'Original'.

The model 70, and model 100 didn't come out until mid 1963. These were the first Cub Cadets to have model names/numbers. The 70 had a 7hp engine, and the 100 had a 10hp engine.
