I"m new to the garden tractor world. So here"s my question: I just went to my local Lowes store and they have the Cub Cadet on closeout. It has a 50" cut and a 26 hp Kohler 2 cyl engine. Regular price was $2199 but the floor model is closing out for $1200. I know the price is good, but I know nothing about the quality of the tractor. Any ideas or advice? Jon

Before you get into this too deep, check on the warranty. do you have a local Cub Cadet dealer to service it for you? The reason for the closeout price is Lowe's are dropping Cub Cadet for 2006 and going to John Deere. So, if you do not have a local Cub Cadet dealer and you need parts or warranty, you may be out of luck. Plus, Cub Cadet is owned and made by MTD and if it not a shaft driven tractor, an MTD is an MTD, no matter what name is on the hood. Most of the low priced MTD tractors usually will work good for a couple of years, and then it is downhill from htere.

I bought the cub cadet LT1050 last spring and mowed about 2.5 acres of lawn without any problems. The prices I have seen listed for the past year is $1999. If you can buy it for $1200 that is a good buy in my opinion.
