Frank,

Did you ever find an HH100 engine.
I have the same 1970 Sears Custom 10XL Tractor.
The solid state magneto is gone.

Paul

I rebuilt 10 XL -HH100 back in 1996. Bored out '10 over and put in new piston/rod/assy. and it runs like a champ. Problem now is that Tecumseh discontinued replacement parts on some things in 1999 - Check on availability of parts before tearing down. I need the magneto which was discontinued and I am having a hard time finding one. Bob's in Iowa (319-377-3339) will rebuild old one for $250 -OUCH !!! Tecumseh offered dealers rebates for discontinued parts so everybody traded them in for cash. Only way to find one is to call every Mom & Pop repair shop and see if they have one laying on a shelf.

Framk, I have the identical tractor. If the engine is not severely damaged, I would probably tell you to put $300 or so into it and have it rebuilt. It's hard to come by those good old cast iron engines any more. If that not an option, you can try this place. Not sure where you live, but if it's too far, they mail order. The engine would either be used and gone over or rebuilt. If a trip is an option, you have to see this place. It's a graveyard for old lawn and garden tractors and he has most everything.

Hi Frank,

In a nutshell, the engine those tractors had was a Tecumseh HH-100. Northern Hydraulic carried new ones for about $500 up to a couple years ago (when they quit sending me their catalogs.)
