Thanks to everyone who replied to my earlier posting. I learned a great deal. There is a repair using some automotive coils that will work but I also found that there are new Solid State Ignition Coils available for Tecumseh engines. It is a myth that they are no longer available. Part number 610906 is available at Farmer's Exchange in Ohio for $94.95. There is another internet source that has them for $135.64.. All I am trying to do now is find one closer to home and my local Case-I-H dealer has a catalogue of small engine parts for Tecumseh, he wants me to verify the engine number, engine serial and part number and he can order it...so they are available and it is a simple item to replace, two screws and hook the plug wire up and the ignition wire on...Mike in Exeter Ontario

Micheal,
First of all, you are correct, the 610906 is still available, never has been discontinued. The 610759 has been discontinued, as has been since 1998. and that is the part that goes under the flywheel and ususally is the part that goes out. If you can find a 610906 for $94.95, and that is what you need, ya better buy it, that is below dealer price on that part number. So, before you spend $100.00 for the external coil, you might want to make sure that is the right part you need. If you need any help on that, email me with some numbers and I will see what I can find for you.
Jim
