This one seems to start half way decent the first time. After about 15-20 minutes of mowing it will die and then you can not start it again. Is it the fuel pump or what? This belongs to a friend. He did say something about giving it a little ether to start it but then dies after mowing a while. Please help.

You call it a 165Hydro???? What brand are you talking about??? If it has a Kohler engine I think I know your problem. Well used Kohlers are famous for exhaust valve stem build-up. They start and run fine until the temperature of the valve stem finally gets high enough for it to seize in the guide, (gunk on the stem where it goes in the valve guide). Fixing it will require removing the head, valve spring chamber plate, and exhaust valve, cleaning the stem, (high speed wire brush, fine emery paper), applying high-temp never-seize and re-assembling everything. I've seen this problem many times and it sounds like yours has the classic symptoms. Hope this helps...Steve-O
