i have a cub cadet 106 that i have been trying to get to start for awhile.
it has a spark it has gas the timing is correct both the valves are opening and closing the carburator was rebuilt about 2yrs ago and has been cleaned several times since it died. the gas is getting to the cylinder the mixture screws on the carb are set right. after i started having this problem i let it sit for about a month and then went out to it and it fired right up and ran great but after about 2days it wouldnt start again. it died slowly last fall like it would have a hard time starting it would backfire and pop and tuning it didnt help and after awhile it wouldnt start except for those 2days. been trying to get it runing all winter and spring playing with the carb the points and the timing but nothing seems to help

You say that fuel is not the issue, then it has to be something with the electrical part of the system, that is intermintent. It could be:
* Bad Spark Plug
* Bad Points
* Bad Condenser
* Bad Ignition Coil

I would suggest, that repace the spark plug, clean and reset the points to .020" and replace the condenser. Start there and see what happens. As a last resort, replace the ignition coil.
I would suggest that your parts replacement be actual Cub Cadet or Kohler replacement parts.

Change the condensor. It'll run.
