I have had mowing problems with my 1450, as most of you know by now, and it has been said I may need motor mounts. When I grab the motor (off) and shake it, it feels like it is bolted right to the frame. No real movement. WHen running at anything less tha full or at an idle, the machine vibrates and shakes.
I thought if the mounts were bad, the motor would feel loose if u grab it and shake?

The engine is not bolted to the frame. There a two pieces of steel bolted to the engine oil pan. The pieces have holes at each end throught which the rubber mounts are placed. You might more easily check the mounts by unplugging the headlight and removing the hood and front grill as an assy. There are only four 3/8" bolts to remove. When you remove the front grill/hood you can easily see the front mount. The mounts normally fail as the bottom half is crushed over time. The K321 engine is very heavy and overtime crush the mounts. This cause the location of the engine output shaft to move down which will cause the mower deck drive belt to have LESS tension applied by the tensioning assy. that is on the front chin of the Cub.

The vibration can be from: (A) Bad motor mounts, or (B) bad rubber Flex Couplers on each end of the drive shaft. The Parts you may need are:
(4) 759-3952 Mounts, Motor
(*) 922-3000 Coupler, Flex Disc

* Depends on the Drive Shaft on your Cub. Some used 2 and some used 3 couplers.
