My well maintained lawn tractor just died a violent death! I believe the piston siezed and the rod is broken. I just changed oil and filter three weeks ago and do so as per manual. Engine has 210 hours. About half our lawn is steep hills. Is it possible the oil pick-up is in such a place it is sucking air at times???? We mow across and up and down. I'm used to equipment lasting 10 to 15 years or more if maintained. Anyone have any input on this subject??

If ya have hills and slopes...ya need to make sure your mower has a fully-pressurized lubrication system. Some of the B&S OHVs do, some dont. I bought a new Craftsman this year, and I bought last years model, because none of this years lawn tractor models have full-pressure. There are gonna be lots of dead lawn mowers in a year or two!!

Yes it is posible the oil pump will cavitate (suck air) on hillsides which in turn will starve all internals of oil for a brief period of time causing excessive wear and causing rod to let go or piston to seize ..
