Anybody installed thrust bearings on the spindles to help with hard steering? I have rebuilt the gearbox but still steers harder than my 212. Also when the hydro is at operating temp., the hyd starts to hunt, works ok but what is causing this. thanks

I realize that type f fluid can be used in most JD hydros, but what most people dont realize is that as a hydro has more and more hours on it the fluid will actually blow past the pump motor rotor pistons,my cost effective repair for my customers was to change out fluid and install low visc hygard, it gives new life to and old hydro for a lot less money than a rebuild.

I have a 317. Mine does the opposite it creeps or search's when it cold.
As it gets warmed up it goes away. They told me at the dealer when it creeps like that the linkage out of adjustment? The one 317 that I have steers hard also the bushings are good in it. My other has power steering on it. I know when I jack the front up the steering turns real easy. Thinking the engine weight has alot to do with it.

I have thrust bearings under the spindles of my 300 and 316. Helps some.

Also check the bellcrank and make sure it is adjusted pretty tight but not dragging and greased well.

Steering is not the best.

Don't know about hydro, unless filter needs changing or low on fluid. I only use type F as originally specified for mine.
