Cub Cadet mower deck

I got a Cub Cadet 1000 from the 70's as part of a house purchase. The tractor runs great. The mower deck is a 3 blade type. When the PTO is engaged you can see the grease fittings spinning and the blades are turning. But it ain't cutting any grass.

I am used to dull blades beating up the grass but still managing to cut some. Are my blades not turning fast enough? Belt slipping? The blades are so dull you can't tell the cutting edge from the back side except for the angled up end.

I can sharpen the blades but how will I know if the blade speed is OK? I have the manuals for the tractor and deck but there's no substitute for the voice of experience and that's why I am posing this question here.

Thanks
Carl

Hello Carl,
I have an old Cub, model 102 with a 3 blade deck. When I got the deck I had to free up the blades in order to rotate them. Once I got grease into them they ran like a dream. I also sharpened the blades. I too noticed that the blades didn't seem to cut well. I narrowed it down to a slipping belt. I tightened both belts and tuned up the engine and after all that they cut grass. Good luck!!

get some grease in them asap if not done already i'm rebuilding a 44" deck right now for my 128 and needed to cut off the pulleys and found the woodruff key slot worn on the middle shaft too. decks are very neglected by everyone.
