What's the best engine, for the money, on the market today? Taking into consideration the following points: application, parts, service, price, and durability.

Other than finding a place to get parts, the Generac Guardian engines are unbeatable and virtually unstoppable in their respective hrosepower ranges. We have 32hp egnines on 72" Dixie Chopper mowers, and they are unstoppable. The horsepower will overpower the 72" deck without a doubt.

Yanmar diesel's are unbeatable in my opinion. Pay more money. Get alot of hours of use. I had a jd 332 with 900hrs. Ran like top. My dad has 430 jd with 1000hrs and 332 with 900hrs. Both run great! Also I service a customers 455 jd with over 2500hrs. I wouldn't own another gas engine if looking for long term hours. Just my opinion.

Honda OHV's are good, but you also said "service" and that puts B&S Vanguard line in front. They are as good as the best, and B&S has better service after the sale than Honda...

Personally i'd choose a Vanguard over the Kohler...

IMHO the new OHV Kohlers are hard to beat. I WAS NOT a fan until I worked on one that had ingested a lot of dirt from an incorrect air cleaner. The rings were gone. End gap was .100 inches. Sleeve had wore .002 inches. Set of rings put it back in service.
