I have inherited a Cub Cadet Model 108 from my father-in-law. Believe it or not is has 10 to 15 hours of operation on it and has been stored in a garage every since.
I spent the weekend replacing dry rotted belts, carb gasket, points and condensers etc. It runs perfectly.
Can anyone tell me exactly how old this tractor is and can I get manuals (I have the original operating manual) part numbers etc.
Thank you for any help and direction you can give me.

Wayne, production began in 1971 for the 108's and went until 1975 I believe. You can still get parts and manuals from your cub cadet dealer. I think you might be able to get manuals over the phone to, try 1(330) 273-4550.

Both of these instances happened in the summer several years apart,I was mowing and all at once these tractors started popping & backfiring then stopped, I let each engine cool down, trying to start them occasionally, nothing. Then I heard a snap in the engine, after that they started right up. The exhaust valve must stick open until it cools down. both tractors did that for a while, then never done it again. If it happens to you, be patient, let the valve snap shut & go again. Both of these engines were 10hp model 241 Kohlers. I would like to know if others had this happen to them too.

Roger,
Thanks for your comments.
After setting up for so long, I found that the exhaust valve had stuck open and therefore the engine wouldn't start.
I pulled the head and worked the valve with a small rubber hammer to get it to close and then lots of Liguid Wrench. I worked with it for a couple of hours to get it to work properly. Since it has been running (I've only put a few hours on it so far) it has not stuck again. I'll keep my fingers crossed. Thanks again

Wayne, I talked to my neighbor, Don Lamb, Lamb Small Engines, Homer Iowa, today and he said that there were hundreds of Kohler engines that done that years ago, he said some of it was the type of gas they used in them, Don said the clearance between valve stem & guide was a bit too tight and Kohler fixed the problem later on. Don also said this rarely if ever happened in cooler weather.
