I have a cadet 782 with a 17 HP, Kohler twin. I had a problem with gas in the crankcase. It started and ran fine for a little while (15 minutes), and then started to load up from a rich mixture. I cut it off, and in a few minutes I checked the oil and there was a lot of gas in the crankcase. I think the float in the carb stuck open, and it leaked into the engine. There was a lot of gas (3 inches over full on the dipstick), and I know this is dangerous. Have any of you had this problem, and if so is there a preventitive measure for it. I pulled the carb and checked it out and dried out the engine and it runs fine now. I just don't want it to happen again. I would appreciate any help I can get. Thanks, Mark R.

Sam & Chuck, Thanks for your response. I lowered the float a smidgeon, and blew out the carb. Dried out the engine, changed oil and she's fine for now. Sam I like the idea of a shutoff valve that is easily accessable under the hood. I am going to do that. Thanks again, Mark

Mark, Same thing happened to my 1811 (same Kohler engine as yours), had to re-ring engine as result. Replacement of needle valve, seat and float is good insurance to prevent recurrance, also installed a shut off valve inline near carb. more accessable by raising hood.

Mark,
Same thing happened to me with my Cub Cadet 1810 several years ago. I replaced the float.
