42 Swisher problems

My neighbor has a 42" Swisher and it works fine when it's in gear and mowing. The problem is that when it's disengaged, the main drive pulley rubs up against the drive belt and it's only a matter of time before the belt will fail. She has the owner's manual from Swisher and there's nothing in there that shows how to properly adjust the internal mecanism to prevent the belt from dragging on the pulley. Has anyone else ever had to deal with this, and if so, what can be done? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you saying that when the drive to the mower deck is disengaged that it rubs the ground drive belt and damages it? If so do you lift the mower deck to disengage the mower drive? If you all you may need to do is adjust the lift so the deack is not lifted quite as high.

Kent - yes to your first question, and no, the mower deck isn't the problem. It's the belt. When disengaged, the slack in the belt causes it to rub against the drive pulley. I can't figure out how to adjust the mechanism so that the slack in the belt is in a position whereby it remains clear of the drive pulley.
