Just got a 149 up and running and I'm not sure of how to adjust linkage. It goes forward great but can barely get it to reverse. Isn't this linkage adj problem?

What the previous person has stated is what to look for first. To get at the Charge Relief Valves you have to remove the cover that will be between your legs as you are seated on the tractor. You should have a lever on the left side of the tractor that when it is put in detent position the two valves will be put into the free wheeling position. Those are the two valves that you need to change around. Before changing those valves around make sure to have the working area totally clean and free of debris of any kind. It won't hurt to spray some penetrating oil on the top buttons of the valves to loosen them up. IF your tractor now goes fast in reverse and slow in forward you know that one of the valves is bad. NOW>>> they are somewhat expensive... over $100.00 each. IF you go on Ebay make sure the seller is EXTREMELY reputable (100% feedback). Otherwise you can get valves that work but will leak. If you'd like to join some sites that have some very knowledgeable people that can further help you with pictures and diagrams and other info please e:mail me and I'll send the sites to you. Keep us posted.

i have been looking for info on this topic for some time now. it sound like i might be on to something here with you.

my problem is also with a 149. i can stop on a dime from reverse to neutral, however from forward to neutral it slows down but will continue to move until i manually move the hydrostaic engagement lever. the worst is sometimes it takes off when idleing.

i seem what looks like worn arms and rods but i am not sure if there is adjustments to compensate for the "slop".

any info would be great.

I am assuming you are working on a Cub Cadet model 149.

The problem may not be with the/any of the linkages. It may be a bad, or dirty, hydro valve. Swap the valves -side for side-, and see if the tractor changes to being slow in forward.
