I have had mine for 18 years and always run it dry of gas in the fall and left it in an unheated shed. Never changed the oil and it has always started first pull every spring. I found it on LONG iSLAND. a 3.5 HP Tecumseh. Amnd they say a Tecumseh ain't any good. Ha!!

I would concider a bit of stabile in any gas that remains in the tank.Running it until it runs out of gas can also help reduce varnish forming in the carb.

You have received good suggestions on storing your engine. I would keep the engine in a dry building. Don't keep it in your basement, they're too damp. Hal

I'd fill it with oil and also drizzle a little into the spark plug hole, then turn it over a few times. Throw a cloth over it, store it in a dry place and it'll be good to go next spring. Some folks put 'em in a plastic bag, but unless you also put a couple bags of dessicant in there with it, you may end up with moisture trapped in the bag and damaging something.

To go one step further (I agree with the oil plan) I would even grab the flywheel and give it a turn or two every once in a while throughout the winter. Keeps everything lubricated.
