I've never posted here. I hang on the combine site. Going through the archives and found out i
have a nice desirable cub. I've used it for alot of mowing. Got a rod knock this fall. I see that you can get the crank turned and a rod with a bearing in it? Exactely what i need!! Who do i turn to? Kind of got me a little excited you guys have. Probably do a complete rebuild on the engine. Any information on the 169 would be appreciated.
I'm thinking maybe a nice paint job, since i used to do alot of body work back 20 years ago.

Thanks guys

Farmer

Do a google on Brian Miller he can do it all. He will turn Kohler cranks up to -.030" in .010" steps and fit the correct bearing into the rod.

Please note: the standard undersize grind of the rod throw on a K-series Kohler is .010 under. The standard undersize grind for a B&S ( Briggs) is .020 under. If you turn a Kohler crank .020 under you will not be able to find a stock length rod to fit the crank pin.

You probably need to take the block along to your auto machine shop and have them measure the block for wear. They can determine if it needs to be bored oversize and have them do a valve job too.
They can probably grind the shaft undersize and furnish a new rod and oversize piston if the block needs bored. I did this on a B&S engine
the machine shop had to bore it.020" os and grind the shaft .020" undersize. Had to replace the exhaust valve too. It had ball bearings for mains and I reused them. That was 12 years ago.
Still runs good. Hal

Are you talking for a K-series Kohler? If so the is a place in Iowa, Mid-west Super Cub that has a billet rod for the K-series with a rod bearing BUT this rod is longer than stock and must be used with a piston with a raised wrist pin. You must also releave the bottom of the cylinder to clear the rod. You can buy a .010 under rod from Kohler, if this is a Kohler engine, to use when you turn the crank.
