that filter crosses to STENS #120-265 and is about 6 bucks
i use them in all of my tractors including the pullers and never had a problem. the problem with automotive ones is they are the wrong microns and can starve the pump for oil

Perry,
The original part number was 5990 then it was superceded to 102819 (red housing) and now 79-5270 (black housing). This filter and fluid should be changed once a year or every 100 hours.
I do not recomend the Fram filter PF-16 even though it will fit it does not have the correct flow for the Wheel Horse hydrostatic.

I called our local auto parts store and that 5990 filter crossed to Fram's PH16. I 've been using them for 35 years on that Wards tractor. Never had that hydro apart. I use Dextron ATF in it too. It has woked hard over the years pulling that moldboard plow. Hal

the Wheel Horse part number is now a 79-5270, sells for 11.42. I guess to each his own, but for $11.42, I would not buy an aftermarket filter to save $5-6.00 on something as critical as a hydro filter.

The Wheelhorse part number is 5990 on your filter.
Any local auto parts store should be able to cross-reference the number. My Wards tractor uses the Fram PH 16 filter. Hal
