My generac power washer will cost more money to rebuild the pump than it is worth,$248.15 PARTS & LABOR.I paid less than $425 for it 6 years ago. My question is what brands to look at or stay away from? I am considering a Craftsman. Will be used for autos and camper & twice a year for cleaning up after butchering. Thanks for your thoughts.

Jeff,
Let me shed light on pressure washers like you have. I work on Briggs portable power, formally generac pressure washers, and normlly the problems if they need repaired is from improper education of the owner of the pressure washer. Most of the time when I have to repair or replace a pump is caused by improper storage after use and not running something through it to get the water out of it when it sits for a while, especially if you use chemicals in your pressure washer also, the soap and things really will mess up a pump if it not properly prepared for storage. The water has a chemical reaction to the aluminum pumps and then they oxidize, and this normally causes pump problems. The only way you stop this is to get a chemical where you get your pressure washer to flush it when you are done, that way you do not have water in it. Now you buy a high dollar pressure washer with alot of brass in it, then you do not have this problem, but you will spend some big bucks to get it. If you pressure washer engine runs good, I would fix what you have, then ask the person fixing what caused the problem that you are ahvding to pay for a repair on the pump. If they tell you corrosion, then ask them for a chemical to flush the water out when you are done using it. This gets to be a kinda sticky thing, the manufacturers do not put out enought info to educate the consumer on proper use and storage, then the consumer gets upset when it cost half the price of a new one to fix it. 75% of all the small pressure washers are now made by either Briggs and stratton(the old generac) or karcher and briggs is a better one than karcher by far.

Try looking at Water Cannon. They have some good prices and some very good equipment.Buy a 2500 psi unit with either a general or cat pump and a Honda motor, you will not be sorry. A very good accessory is a rotary tip.
