AC tiller grease problem

Hi,
I have a 36" AC (Simplicity) tiller for my AC 916. I just changed the tines (the one who said they were pricey was right...$160.00) and greased shaft where it enters the gear housing. There is a grease fitting on each side of the housing. One takes grease well, and the excess comes out around the shaft. The other fitting doesn"t take grease well. The grease squirts out in tiny streaks between the gear housing and the bracket into which the grease fitting is threaded. No grease comes out around the shaft. What could be the problem? Any solutions before I start taking it apart?
Thanks,
Steve

Take the fitting out and try digging the old grease out with a seal pick. Another thing you can try CAREFULLY is to heat up the area, then pump in fresh grease. The heat will melt out the old hard grease, but be careful, as hot grease spraying out will stick to skin, and wont wipe off easily.

Thank you,
I took off the grease fitting and probed around, but couldn't find any hard grease. The grease was normal.
