I posted a while back about this engine. It is still driving me nuts. I decided to rebuild the carb because for last couple of years you had to prime it through the carb to start anytime it set for more than a day or two. Well I have pulled the carb down 3 times after I rebuilt it to try and make it work with very little improvement. At first it wouldn"t run at all. Now it runs if you prime it but is harder to prime than it was before I rebuilt it. Also it will restart if hot without a prime but you gotta choke it like it was cold. Evidently it"s not getting enough gas. I have soaked the carb in cleaner once and blown it out three times so I know it"s clean. Anybody got any more ideas? I"m real close to junking this tragedy or getting a new engine cause a new carb is half the price of an engine and this engine has got some hours on it.

If you are having to prime this engine every time you start it, Check for a hole in the sub fuel tank which is on the inside of you main fuel tank. The fuel pump on the carb pumps fuel from the main tank into this sub tank. This is the place the short tube on the carb draws the running fuel for the engine. One way to do a quick check is to fill the fuel tank completely full. If you no longer have to prime, a leaking sub fuel tank is likely. This will happenagain as fuel is comsumed.

How would you fix the inner subtank? When I look in the main tank at about 1/2 full I can see a steady stream coming down from the carb.

You have to buy a new fuel tank.

Did you replace all the gaskets when you put it back together? That is a very common problem with that type of carb if you do not replace the gaskets between the tank and carb, it will suck air. Also, did you check the pickup tubes and make sure you do not have a crack in them that will allow it to suck air and not gas?

Model number 130212 3274 01
Serial Number: 91082707
BS495606 KIT CARB OVERHAUL

This kit covers several different carbs. I replaced every part for this carb. It did not help problem at all. I'm starting to think the inner subtank is my problem but not sure how to fix it.

About the only way to fix that tank is to get another tank, and probably a new one, if available, or a used one if not! I don"t know if new tanks can be found, but you might get lucky! I have several used ones, but not in the best condition. I"m assuming you replaced the little fuel pump gasket on the side of the carb.? Also, make sure there is no water behind that gasket and cover plate! That will stop the running of the engine right quick!

Do you mean fuel pump diaphragm when you said gasket? I didn't have a gasket in this location when I replaced the diaphragm and I didn't see a new one in the kit. Also can't the inner tank be sealed to prevent leakage. I don't think a new tank is going to be a cost effective option if one is even available. If I can't seal the inner tank then I think my best bet would be a replacement engine with a new tank. More thoughts???
