I need some help. I have an Ariens GT16 that I would like to repower with a Vanguard 16. The problem is the drive shaft runs off the flywheel and the bolt pattern is not correct. I have found kits to put a Vanguard in, but the all include the engine. I tried Jims Repower and he quoted me 500.00 if he would sell the kit without the engine. Has anyone had luck with something like this? HELP!!!

What's the situation? in reply to Thomas Danaher, 03-27-2007 15:47:45
Other companies make repower kits. One of them might be more flexible.

Typically if the driveshaft comes off the flywheel it"s because there"s an electric clutch mounted on the crankshaft and facing the front of the tractor. That usually needs to line up with a mule drive to power the mower deck. Is that how yours works?

On the other end pf the motor, you probably have options. Do you need a driveshaft coupling to flywheel adaptor because the holes don"t line up? Do you need a custom stub shaft to mount on the flywheel and engage the driveshaft? Do you need a full custom driveshaft that bolts to the flywheel?

Could you have the flywheel redrilled and tapped to accept the driveshaft? If there's plenty of space on the flywheel it's a piece of cake for a good machine shop to do this. Hal
