Kohler engine problem on Wheelhorse Tractor

We have a Wheelhorse tractor with a Kohler engine.
We started it the other day and it ran for about 50 metres then stopped. There is fuel in the tank and there doesn't seem to be a problem with the battery or spark plug.
The fuel runs to the carburettor but when we removed the spark plug the ignition chamber is dry.
Could this be a fuel pump problem. Anyone any ideas?

I just had a similar failure on my Kohler Courage engine (Craftsman GS6500 used for a LOT of snowblowing). The problem was just a loose wire leading to a solenoid in the carburator. It had good gas, dry plugs, good flow through the fuel filter... like yours. The repairman found it first by listening for a click in the carb when the ignition was turned on, then tracing the circuit back, first through a connection under the air cleaner (ok) and then to a quick connect between the dash switches (pto and ignition).

Pretty much what el toro said..Depending on what engine you've got you've either got a shot fuel pump (if applies) or the float/needle sticking or plugged orifices sp. in the carb..what size is the motor...deanop

Do you have fire to the sparkplug? Pull the plug wire off the sparkplug and hold it away from the plug while someone cranks over engine. Should have a nice hot spark when firing. If you have good fire here install a new plug. If the engine
doesn't start pour about a teaspoon of gas down the sparkplug hole, reinstall the plug then see if the engine starts for a few seconds. If it does you are not getting fuel to the engine. You could have a plugged inline filter or there's dirt in the carburetor or gas line. If you have fuel to the carburetor I don't think there's a fuel pump on that engine. The gas probably gravity flows to the carburetor. Hal
