got help here before in the past,(thanks) and need some help again. My 1641 will be 12 years old this June and has 403 hours on it. Last night I was mowing and noticed it was smoking.Later discovered it was not out the exaust but leaking oil and burning on the engine. It looks as if a seal maybe leaking in front of the motor where the crank comes out. Is there a seal there and how hard to replace it. Thanks in advance, Pit Crew

Yes there is a seal on both ends of the crankshaft at the block. Other than getting to it it isn't a big job. Hardest part is getting the old seal out. Then just tap in a new one with the proper seal driver.

Thanks David. Where is this breather and could it need cleaned or replaced. The front seal I dont think would be hard to get to. Any tricks to getting the old one out? Thanks, Pit Crew

Just another thought. It could be the crankcase breather not working properly. They allow the crankcase to operate in a slight vaccum. If allowed to build pressure it will blow oil out of the seals.
