K-series Kohler use some differant oil pans. Some are 1 1/2 Qts. some are 2 Qts. The oil capacity can be found by using the spec number to I.D. the pan.

There are at least two different oil pans for these engines. The spec number on your engine should let you look it up unless the pan has been changed. The deep pan used the long dipper on the road, and the flat pan (obviously) would use the short dipper.

Whenever you are in doubt about the oil capaciy is to only fill to the full mark on the dip stick.
I had a JD140 with the 14 hp Kohler and I think it held 2 quarts too. Hal
PS: smallenginewarehouse still have the K321 engine for sale and they list the oil capacity at 2 qts.

Deere 140's use a special shallow oil pan, and hold only 1-1/2 pints.

IIRC, the 140's engine # ends in "AS", with the "A" meaning "special oil pan", and the "S" meaning "electric start".
