Here's an easy way to start a rope start engine.
Got tired of pulling that rope. This is a
31-inch Toro composter mower and it has the B&S 23B engine on it. I had to have the cylinder bored .020" oversize and the crankshaft ground .020" undersize in 1993. Our local machine shop did the work. I reassembled the engine with new ball main bearings, piston and rod. The shop installed a new exhaust valve too.
Still has a lot of compression. Hal

You take all the fun out of it,you haven't lived till you try to start one of there monsters in winter below 30 deg without putting a 150w flood lamp against block for 30 min before starting, been doing this on an old tiger tractor for past 33 yrs that I used in winter for 23 yrs with blade & last 10 with a blower, taking same to bone yard this week & finally putting to rest(mag coil bad & burns oil)feel like I'm killing an old friend.

I will soon be 75 and I've done my share of the pulling. I let that 14 Briggs do thr work and it never complains. I don't think the governor even opens up. That Toro Grassking has Whirlwind on the mower can chew up some grass. I even mow off the garden with it. Hal

It may slip a little on the mower pulley. I grab the mower handles to tighten the belt while I'm cranking it with the pto from the tractor. I have a spare generator I could install on it as some of these mowers had electric start. This is
easier. Hal
