I have an 11 hp Craftsman lawn tractor that I bought that needs a head gasket. I looked all over for a model/serial/data plate and couldn't find one. Says Craftsman 11 HP and 4 sp 36" on the side.
It is a Briggs and Stratton engine.
Was that a common enough engine that I can go down to the small engine parts shop and show them the blown gasket and get one to match?
I hate to drive across the city if there are several possible gaskets and I should have found the serial # before I left.
TIA
Jerry

On the curved part of the tin flywheel cover, where it rolls down above the spark plug wire, there should be some letters and numbers stamped into the tin. It will say: Model: Type: Code: This is what you use to order parts for your engine! You may have to remove any plastic coverings that cover the tin part!

Thank you rustyj 14,
I brought the flywheel cover with me and saw the numbers on it like you said.
The parts woman didn't need it though and had the right gasket in stock. $7.20
Put the gasket in after work this evening and the engine fired right up.
Got some other tinkering to do on this tractor before it is ready to cut grass but I believe I bought a runner.
Thanks for your help.
