Hi guys!

Was just wondering if you could shed a little light on a problem with my Lawnflite 550 tractor. I bought it 2 days ago and seems to be in good condition. I used it all day today and worked just fine. However, I went to use it again this evening and it won't go into gear. Everything else seems to work - blades engage etc - but when I try to put it into forward/reverse; the lever doesn't seem to want to sit in the desired position...and even if I kinda hold it there and bring up the clutch - I still won't catch and subsequently I can't get the machine to move!

I have tipped it on it's side and both belts are intact. Do you guys have any idea as to what might be wrong? I didn't hear any strange noises - it just suddenly didn't work!

Any help of advice would be much appreciated
Thanks
Nic

I have no idea who made or what style transmisson is in your tractor. If it's an MTD style there is a process listed on a sticker under the hood if it won't go forward or reverse that you are supposed to follow. Seems to me it was something simple like putting it in forward an release the clutch and then doing the same in reverse a couple of times.

I have confirmed that it is an MTD product. look for the sticker on the underside of the hood. That is where it is on my 600 series MTD.

The "MTD" cure is regarding the"Transmatic" MTD tractors with the variable pulley tranny.FWD/Reverse lever is put in neutral, disconnecting the axle and then the main shifter(which controls the variator pulley) is cycled(engine running) thru all the gear positions, thereby hopefully freeing up stuck or binding variator pulley or linkage. If this doesn't resolve a"no drive" problem on MTD transmatics, look for broken tension springs on the variator linkage, like the long one from pulley arm to rear axle area.
