I HAVE A MINOR PROBLEM WITH A CUB CADET I RECENTLY PURCHASED. THE HYDROSTATIC DRIVE DOES NOT MAINTAIN A STEADY SPEED IT SLOWLY SPEEDS UP WHILE DRIVING IT. IS THERE SOMETHING THAT CAN BE TIGHTENED OR SOMETHING ???

Yes you can tighten the control lever that is located under the plate direcctly in front of the seat. Remove the plate to gain access to the control lever under the steering wheel. There is an alan key bolt and nut assembly that is located at the termination of the control lever shaft. Tighten the nut and bolt to the desired tightness. This will do the trick. I have the exact same machine which had the same problem. Any other problems please feel free to e-mail me.
By the way, I am looking for another older model larger cub cadet. Can you help me?

Had the same problem with my 149. Remove center cover ( the one between your knees). Follow the linkage for the ground speed lever to the bottom. you will see a bolt you can tighten to stiffen up the linkage. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN. if its badly worn it may take more to repair. MURRAY
(let me know how you do)

1) The speed control lever must have some resistance, so that it stays where you put it. There is an adjustment procedure in the service manual.

2) Assuming 1) is okay and you still have the problem: There is a thing that my Cub Cadet guy calls a "spring pack" on the outside of the tranny housing in the speed control linkage. These springs lose their moxie over time, causing the speed to "wander". You want to have a new spring pack installed.
