2 cycle engine early 80s . 125 psi compression . It slow down and harldy run with the air filter install and gets it all full of gas .? With the air filter removed it boggs down at times in heavy grass then take 15 or 20 secounds to come back to life ? At times it runs real good with good power ? any ideas.

It does sound like it could be caused by plugged exhaust ports. You also might empty out the gas including the carb bowl. Might be trash or water in there. I would guess it is possible for there to be a problem with the electronic ign system. I had one of those once and it was a little troublesome with the spark plug messing up. Could usually pull the plug and remove material from the tip of the plug and then run again.

check the exhaust , could be the muffler is plugged up with oil and soot. chain saws do it a lot too.
