Like a father of a friend said "90 per cent of carburetor problems are ignition problems".

Jim I just fought a kolher 14 hp in a 149 till I was ready to give up. I had played with the carb and still couldnt get it. New points & condensor. A friend said swap the coil and now it runs like a champ. The whole time I thought it was fuel like these guys are saying, it would run great till about 1400 rpms. If you have another ciol that you know is good try it see what happens.

If it is an original Kohler branded carb, the high speed jet is on the top of carb, kinda under the throttle control lever, turn that out a little at a time until it runs as though it should, other wise, you may have bad points and condenser, sometimes bad ignition will emulate fuel problems.

third party image

If your carburetor has a main jet adjusting screw
similar to this one on this old B&S carb you need to open this and see if that fixes the problem. If it doesn't you may have dirt in the gas tank, fuel line, carb or a plugged inline filter. Hal
