While out delivering pizza sunday night at 8:30. It was over an hour after sunset. Heading back towards town on this one mile long straight two lane road I see ahead about 1/4 mile this silver thing about 3ft wide, 1ft tall. I wonder if its something left in the road or fallen off of a truck. I had just came the other way down this road 7 minutes ago. I get closer and see its moving but not fast. Closer, then closer I see wheels under the silver thing and above it the outline of shoulders and a head. Its a guy on his lawn tractor with a garden cart behind. The tailgate of the garden cart looks to be silver or galvanized steel. Didn't look at the rest of the cart as I passed by going around 45 or more. He did have his headlights on. I see this as being very risky. This road I sometimes see people flying down at a high clip. Lots of trees and brush close on both sides makes you feel like your going fast. An SMV sign would have been a very good idea. Or some of those cheap stick on red flashers from Wal Mart or some other place. Just imagine if his cart was black and someone was coming the other way and I didn't see him. Possibly a very bad outcome.

Sorry you didn't read or understand the reply. When I start driving down bike paths or sidewalks in a truck I'll be kinder to those bike riders. They don't have to stop at lights or stop signs for that matter, they act like they are riding in a car BUT their not.I'm refering to the speedo group with the mirrors on the sun glasses with their tails high in the air,not motorcycles last time I ck'ed they have paid taxes, tags and insurance, they have every right as you or myself.50,000lb.tractors and equipment are either working off road or on a trailer which also has paid his dues. This is a forum not a pulpit,so lighten up.Dude11third party image

Welllll I did get pulled over one time by the police for driving one of my Wheel Horses on the road. I was driving facing traffic in my suburban neighborhood during a NASCAR race weekend here in Richmond and my Wheel Horse did not have a hood on it so it kind of looked like a go kart with the big tires and tall chrome stack to the officer. And it did not look to good for me when I was told to shut the engine off so the officer could talk to me but could not because the fresh paint did not have a ground to short out the Tecumsehs ignition ..... had to pull the plug wire OUCH! The officer told me that I was on the wrong side of the road with a motorized vehical and I told him that I felt safer seeing the cars coming at me (although there is not much traffic in my neighborhood). Driving a garden tractor on the road with out lights front and rear is dangerous.

Way to many people dare you to come close or HIT them with a car or truck nowadays.Where are these fools heads at??I'm in a 4000 lb.bullet, thier on a 20 lb.bike.If I do hit and kill or cripple them for life, who wins,Them?I don't think so.Dude11 Ps.I don't care who I made mad on this subject!

And if your 4000# "bullet" hits a non licensed, non road tax paying 50,000# farm tractor, that is his fault also??? He is out there on the roads, daring you to him him also???If you feel like you are being dared to hit someone because they are on a 20# bike, you are the one who needs to stay off the road. Now, if a SMV is on the road, they need to have appropriate signage on their SMV so they can be seen at all times. I do not ride a bike, but there are a lot of them out there, they do not want to pay the price of high gas, high auto insurance, high auto maintenance, etc and that is their choice, like you make a choice to drive an automobile. Motorcycles weigh less than your 4000# bullet, and they pay insurance, license, taxes and such, and people still hit them and do not pay attention to them. That is your responsibilty as an adult to pay attention to the traffic around you, they pay the same taxes you pay, so they have the same rights to use the same roads that you use!

That's the problem these days. People don't use their heads. Tell me he was at least driving on the side of the road that he was supposed to be on. That's a real pet peeve of mine. Seems that people don't even know what side of the road to walk on anymore. I see people walking up and down my road all the time and I would say that 50% of them are on the wrong side. Many pedestrians in our general area are getting hit by hit and run drivers and it's always the same story, they were hit from behind while walking along the road. We were always taught growing up that you walk against traffic and ride with and the bikes ALWAYS GOT OUT OF THE WAY OF THE CARS! Sorry, don't get me started on that one. The cyclist out there will say that we are to share the road. Sorry, you ain't going 55 or 60 mph and you ain't stopping for stop signs either. To me, bicycles are the biggest danger on the road these days. My apologies to all the conciencious bike riders out there who try to do it right. They all must be some place else. Getting back to the subject, I always make sure I have a SMV sign on when I go on the road AND I keep watch behind me so I can pull off if a car comes.

Jeff you hit it right on the head, If the bikes are using the road then why dont they make them put a small license plate and let them pay a little share of the road. Here wer have to have bike trails and walk trails on both sides of the road and off of road rightaway but the bikers are out on the road and they wont move either. Enough said as I probably stired up to many people already. Sorry to all the legal riders

He was driving on the right side of the road. I saw a stick on SMV sign at Fleet Farm monday night that was just over $6.00. If I found out who he was I'd buy one for him.
