1872 super garden tractor

Well my tractor took a puke and I need some parts from somebodies pile or I need to get rid of mine.

I was backing up yesterday and lost my drive. Upon inspection, I noticed the connection between the drive shaft and the hyraulic transmission was fried. The drive shaft spins and the hydraulic pinon just sits there. One of these mates must have spun. I'm going to take it apart and have a look but my guess its the carbon steel cowling that is spun.

I'm bummed because this tractor has been good for me but this last wear problem is primarily due to the fact the differential case is losing its connection to the frame and I am getting too much movement in the transmision and drive shaft. I've tighented all the bolts I can, but the ones drilled directly into the differential case are stripped. So unless I can get the transmission secured in, fixing the drive shaft connection isn't going to last long.

Any body got any suggestions??

You can have heli coils installed in those holes that have stripped threads. Hal

The rear end on these Cubs are secured to the frame at two (2) points on each side. There should be two of the rear axle carrier bolts plus and Transmission Mount Bracket on each side.

I have seen where over time, that some of these bolts vibrate loose, and/or come out. Thus this puts stress on the remaining attachment point(s).

The Rear Axle Carrier Bolts, as best as I can seem are a Grade 5 Bolt. Thus, you have a fairly strong bolt being threaded into an Aluminum Housing.
The proper tighten torque is important here. If these bolts are broken, one could drill and use an "easy out" to extract the broken portion. If the threads are stripped, then a close examination could be done to see if re-drilling to the next larger size and re-tap in an option. You could also find a good used rear end or rear end housing and replace that.

If you have the rear end secure and solid, then the stress of the drive line will be eliminated.

Al I dont have any knowlage of working on the sgt's but I have taken one for a spin and what a tractor! Im not clear on what you need but if you want I know 1 guy that will have parts for it and 2 more that may. Drop me an email and Ill sent there phone numbers to ya. I know one guy had 2 with bad eng's in them.

Id really like to add one of them to my colection. If Im not mistaken went they the yellow and white version of the big red 82's.

the 1872 is a 18 hp, 72 in. deck. Super Tractor means its not your run of the mill lawn tractor in that its about 800 to 1000 lbs. Its a beastly machine for the average consumer buit its alsoa heck of a work horse. Lots of heavy gauge steel and cast iron with big A$$ tires. Check soem pictures on the internet.
