I have this pull behind lawn sweeper, grass sweeper, leaf sweeper that I bought new at a local big-box store (Lowes) this summer. I know I put it together correctly. The problem is, the instructions state that it is to be pulled at a "moderate" speed for best results. The only way that I can get it to work is to drive as fast as possible. It just won't load the bag at a moderate speed. It seems as though you have to travel at a high rate of speed for the brushes to throw the material past the front of the bag. It just seems like the gear ratio is too low to put the material into the rear of the bag. Any ideas?

Okay, fellers, thanks for all the good ideas. Think I'd better look at that brush height to start with. Jim.

Im with Joe and JT. I have one and pull it with my cub 147 and if I go too fast I just drag it and too I set it too low and wold hardly load. I have it set now about 2 inches off the ground and I can get a nice load in it. I got it used and its bent up a good bit but love it and glad I bought it.

Feal fre to email me if you need any close up pic

Different brands have different gear ratios. But as someone mentioned wheel slippage can effect performance too, also if set just a bit too low,so theres too much drag on brushes.Brushes should just skim grass, not"comb" through it,and hitch angle(too hi or low)can also effect performance.Agri fab sweepers do have a poor gear ratio for rough ground or slow tow units.
Unknown if Agrifab offers any cures. But I do know that proper set up and use is"fussy".

The problem with Agri-Fab stuff is that it does not have enough weight to keep the wheel from slipping on the grass. they normally also have small tires that don't get much traction. If you get a decent sweeper, they work good, but the light "box store" sweepers work marginal at best. Ohio Steel used to build that worked great, was about $500.00 back in the 80's, but had 12" x 2" steel ball bearing wheels and it would throw grass over the bag if you went too fast.

Take it back. I've never seen a lawn sweeper that worked very well, but then I'd have to admit I haven't seen them all.

Jim the hopper should almost drag on level ground and make sure to use the hitch shims to hold the tongue down. I do not have a tree on the place but I use mine when the grass gets away from me.
