Well, the first problem I can see is you took off a Kohler battery ignition engine, it puts 12volts to the engine to run. The Vanguard is a magneto ignition, it does not put battery power to the engine to run. So you could have a wire hooked up wrong and if you put 12v to the coil, you burnt up a coil. I would unhook all the wires you hooked to the engine, then check and see if you still have no fire. If you unhook everything, have no fire, you probably burnt up the coil. I would call these people and let them replace the coil for you if that is what you find out. If you have fire, I would again call the people who coble these engines up to sell and let them help you figure this out. I have seen some of these conversions and they can be a wiring night mare if you are not sure what they have done.

The Vanguard has a self-powered "mag" ignition system.

To stop it, the "kill terminal" gets grounded.

The "kill terminal" is NEVER powered with battery voltage.

If you happened to connect it up to the ignition switch of a tractor that originally had "Kettering ignition"... automotive-style ignition coil and points igntion, you MAY have "let all the smoke out" of the Briggs ignition system.

Disconnect anyhing you have connected to the Briggs' "kill terminal", and see if you get spark then.

What engine did you take off this tractor ?
Was the solenoid on the old starter or on the tractor frame ?
