I just got an old White snowblower with a bad gearbox for the blower. I am going to use it for a tug to pull my airplane in and out of the hangar while its on skis. It's an 8hp Brirggs. You start it by pluging a 110volt cord into the top of the motor. It starts fine but surges. I cleaned the carb, replaced the fuel line but no help. I tried adjusting the carb to give it more fuel but it still surges while running rich. Not sure what to try next. Any ideas?
Tim

Thanks for the tips guys.
Cleaned the carb again and it runs perfect now. Must of been a little piece of dirt I didn't get the first couple of times. Runs like a Swiss watch now.

if it is a snow blower engine they are designed to run in cold weather, so if you are using it in warm weather, it can give problems. You might find a carb off a 8hp briggs that is an all purpose engine n try that.

if engine is Tecumseh, tiny hole in main jet is likely plugged

new jet comes in rebuild kit, sometimes it is a lot easier to replace jet than try to clean that microscopic hole

Sound like you have the IDLE mixture set to lean or the IDLE pasages in the carb are dirty. Be sure the brass tube on the main jet is open on the inside as this is the passage through with the idle mixture passes Kent

Tim, You might check to see if the small, long spring that runs on the length of the throttle rod is connected on each end. This spring takes out play in the throttle system and prevents the engine from surging.

If thats the Briggs,2 piece FloJet,they're a bit fussy to get dialed in,takes some patience.
