I am currently working on my 318 because of some electrical problems. First problem is it will sometimes not turn over then if you hold the key to the start position it may or may not start to turn over after a few seconds. Then on the other hand if it turns over it will continue to turn over until I unhook the battery with the key in the off position. I am guessing electrical but was hoping someone could lead me into an easy direction I guess. Once I get that problem solved I have another problem. Thanks in advance

After checking out the solenoid, check the ignition switch. They will short out (sometimes) and keep the solenoid activated.

I had that problem and I replaced the solenoid for about $5.00. Hal
PS: That fixed the problem.

Hal,
The 318 should have a solenoid shift starter with the solenoid on top of the starter.

Has your machine ever had the relay kit put on it? If it has a relay kit, you might have a bad relay on it, or you could have a bad starter solenoid if it has not had the relay kit put on it.
