I'm in the process of ressurecting an old Briggs and Stratton 8 horse engine for my log splitter.I'm putting in new valves, doing a major tune-up,cleaning up the whole engine and painting it.What's everyones opinion about painting the cooling fins on the head and cylinder? Should I leave them with no paint or should I paint them? I'm wondering about heat dissapation with paint on these parts. Maybe run hotter painted?? Any ideas? Thanks.

Was it painted when new?My guess is yes, unless you use a high temp type paint,it will burn it off anyway.I'd go with h/temp and bet it won't hurt anything.Dude11

I always use engine paint, any auto parts store sells it. Never had an issue.
