Trying to help neighbor with 1966 yardman 16hp hydrostatic tractor. All the wires to the voltage regulator were disconnected when purchased. I contacted MTD and they thought the model number could be 136-390 but did not have any other information. Any help finding a wiring diagram for the voltage reg. on this tractor would be appreciated.

Thank you both for the information. I removed some paint from the legs on the voltage reg. and found the marks. I'll wire everything up on monday and see if it charges.

If a Starter/Generator set-up, you connect a wire from the "F" terminal on the starter/generator to the "F" terminal on the regulator. A 16 gauge wire should be heavy enough. The you connect a heavier 14 or 12 gauge wire from the "A" terminal on the regulator to the "A" terminal on the starter/geberator. You also connect a heavier wire, 10 gauge should do, from the "A" terminal on the starter/generator to you starter switch or solenoid. The system SHOULD be 12 volt NEGATIVE ground. Kent

It often helps if you identify the motor but I'm going to guess that it's a cast iron Briggs with a start/gen unit on the side of it. If so, then it likely has a three terminal regulator and those are often marked to indicate Field, Armature and Battery connections.
