Advice on lawn tractor

I am looking to replace my lawn tractor. I have a 1994 Murray 11HP tractor now. I am really sick of it. Its a total piece of ****.
I fixed my neighbors nearly new Huskqvarna last fall. It sure was nice with the hydrostatic transmssion and lot smoother running engine.
Being that I am a cheapskate, I am trying to find a used one, I have about 1/2 acre to mow, I don't need something real big just kind of entry level with a hydrostatic transmission for sure.
I won't want to buy anymore of that Wal-Mart ****. I would like to get something like a Huskqvarna, John Deere, Cub Cadet, etc. I am thinking $800-900 for good used? Am I in the ballpark? What are some other good brands besides the ones I mentioned? Any advice appreciated.

Find an older JD LX172 or similar model. These can still be found in good used condition and are far better than those MTD's.

I have an 812 Gravely rider with mower deck. Built like a tank, but not very good for mowing lawns. the blades do not spin fast enough and it is the way it is built. Different decks might be different though.

I use it to mow briars and brush with works great for that and for pulling loads of firewood out of the woods.

don't get me wrong I love my Gravely, but as a lawn mower it is mediocre.

Lots of good used quality mowers around.I saw a 16HP 4 wheel riding Gravely sell last week for $500 and a Red Cub Cadet in great shape with mower for $700 both ready to go mow grass.Either one of these will wear out several of the $1,000 to $2,000 mowers being sold now.

Thanks, I'll keep my eyes open for these brands.
