I got the Bolens 1556 Hydrostatic tractor running. The On Disk Manual + some Sears / Case schematics solved most of the wiring problems.

Wiring is still incomplete , Lights, little stuff, Safety Switches Bypassed to test engine Generic [ Snapper ] Ignition switch

I don't need a Big Tractor like the Bolens,
yet if it proves reliable, I may keep it for towing lawn tools. I'm a 2 wheel Gravely Nut by nature, and have many attachments. In order to use Lawn Tools with the Gravely, you must run in reverse

If you are looking for a tractor for towing stuff around the yard, yes that tractor will do a great job, if you are looking to build a tractor puller, don't waste your time, a hydro is too much of a HP drain for actual tractor pulling.

You are definitely right JT. I did try to pull a 1666 in competition. It will work on a small track tho.Ours was 40' 3100# with 1200# with driver.the last 2' of that was actual [full weight]If I was to pull On longer track 230' I believe was [The Equalizer]sleds name].About 60' I would run out of transmission, wheels wouldn't even spin until I stopped trying to pull but immediately I'd hit it again she would spin till buried if I wanted.----To awnser original question .Yes it is a wonderful machine for all those pieces of equipment.I like mine especially for pushing snow.52" blade.

I plan on pulling yard tools, a small trailer, roller, and the like. I don't plan to compete, am on too tight a budget to blow it up, or even bake the cracked tires. A poster mentioned not pulling anything with a [ later ] hydrostatic, and had my doubts. So far, the tractor is reliable, starts, drives, charges. The deck lift seems screwed up, missing parts. Can I cap it, and remove it. The PTO works, but I don't see the need for it. Have 2 wheel Gravelys for ' real ' work. Removing the deck lift, and PTO should yeild some ground clearance
