i am interested in buying a ariens tiller with a 7 hp tecumseh motor. does anyone know about their reliabilty and if i had to buy parts for it are they still abailable or pretty much obsolete. i know the newer ones arent made as well as they used to be that is why i am looking to purchase an older one but am not to familar with the ariens tillers made in the 80's

Had one in the shop awhile back, junked it
Brass drive gear totally blown, replacement not available, customer wound up with good motor, I got a pair of wheels, the handlebars wound up on a friend's genwelder. Your right, they are well built, not like today's junk

Parts are getting hard to get for them, some of the small parts are replaced by an assembly, and are expensive, but can be bought.

i have a 1977 rocket tiller 7hp tecumseh. parts are still available. only big thing ive done to mine is rebuild the engine 8 years ago. its a good tiller ,has reverse on the wheels but the tines only turn one way.not a problem unless your breaking hard ground, tends to lurch forward. i had one in 2 years ago for repair, got a new tine gearhead assembly for it.seems ariens belts work best on rockets for some reason.i got this system of parking the thing on cardboard to see any leaks .leaks will really kill the gears if not caught and repaired. lucas
