I am involved with pulling and I was hoping somebody might
be able to help me with something. I have a 1982 John Deere 111 that I pull in stock classes. It has a 11Hp Briggs & Stratton. I have another 11Hp Briggs im going to put on another 111. I was wondering what I
could do to make it perform better without spending alot of money. Maybe doing something to the cylinder head, or changing the timing of the cam? Something with the carb? I need somebody to point me in the right direction to help get me started. Thanks in advance.

I have a straight pipe. Would it be safe to use the die grinder at the exhaust port to smooth it out. I can still see all the original casting marks where its not completly smooth in the carb, cylinder head, intake, and exhaust ports. Do you know how much I should have shaved off the head?

You could probably cut a few thousands off the head to increase compression, take a few thousands out of venturi to get a little more air/fuel mixture.

Could I use a die grinder on the venturi with a fine grinding rock, just to smooth it out a little? How many thousandths should be cut off the head? Would a regular engine building shop do this? Thanks in advance.

At our pulls we dont have any rules. We dont compete for money or any kind of prizes. It is just for fun and to have something to do. The only rule we have is that the lawn/garden tractor can not be over 20Hp. The one 111 I am leaving completly stock, the other I want to hop up a little bit. Both have carlise tractor type lug tires.
